There are two types of technical interview questions: tool-specific questions and common technical questions.

A tool-specific question is when you get asked, “Tell me about the Terraform lifecycle. What problem does it resolve, and how it work?”

On the other hand, a common technical question could be something like, “Can you describe a CI/CD pipeline you’ve implemented? How did you make it reliable and scalable?”.

In this article, I will give examples of 10 common technical questions I got asked on the DevOps interviews during the past year.

When answering interview questions, discuss the challenge you were facing and how you overcame it. “Challenge” can be anything: tight deadlines, lack of human resources during the project, lack of knowledge and experience, etc. The more difficult the challenge, the better.

You can also use the STAR format for your answers.

The STAR format stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result.

  • Situation: What happened?
  • Task: What was your role when the accident occurred?
  • Action: What steps did you take to resolve the accident?
